Dog Vaccinations in Singapore: What Your Dog Needs and When
Why Vaccination Matters
Vaccines protect your dog against serious, sometimes fatal, infectious diseases. In Singapore, vaccination guidelines for dogs and cats are developed by the NParks/Animal & Veterinary Service and the Singapore Veterinary Association. Vaccines are divided into CORE (recommended for every dog) and NON-CORE (recommended on case-by-case basis).
Vaccines At A Glance
| VACCINE | TYPE | PROTECTS AGAINST |
|---|---|---|
| Distemper | Core | Serious virus affecting respiratory, digestive, and nervous systems — can be fatal |
| Parvovirus | Core | Highly contagious, can cause severe vomiting , bloody diarrhoea; often fatal in puppies |
| Adenovirus | Core | Infectious canine hepatitis and a component of kennel cough |
| Leptospirosis* | Non-core | Bacterial infection spread via water and rodent urine. Can also infect people. *Technically non-core but in Singapore’s environment, this poses a real risk, and most of the core vaccine brands commonly used here already come with Leptospirosis coverage |
| Kennel cough | Non-core | Infectious respiratory disease complex; recommended for dogs that board, attend daycare, or mix with many other dogs etc |
| Rabies | Non-core | Singapore has been rabies-free since 1953; only needed for overseas travel |
Schedule
Note: Adult dogs receiving up-to-date vaccinations may not always need automatic yearly boosters. Speak to your vet to see if your dog can do a titre check, to see if they require any top up.
